we kind of think Hudson looks like Nick--Stacey's dad--but something about his facial expressions have a family resemblance to the Joel and Ashley Wingo babies--sort of.

Catching up

I am so behind--here are pictures while babysitting this fall--I have the ND pictures

somewhere else--and I will have to load them up, too.

Sweet Sisters

These sweeties are being socialized by the daughter of the people I work for--they were strays but they are beautiful--the little white one has dark freckles around mouth and stripes on her tail. They gray one is much more charcoal and pretty in person and has a very calm personality--both of them are good little kitties but they need a home! If you know of someone--let me know!!

ANYWAY...

If you can't go see this now--watch it when the dvd comes out----I saw it today with my dear husband--and I definitely recommend it! I never saw facing the giants--meant to but never did.

Fireproof is the kind of movie I think would grow with word of mouth-- but the theaters probably won't hold onto it long enough.

I'm not sure why I think I have to take time to find a picture in order to post.....

I still have many pictures from our North Dakota Days as yet unloaded and some might be share worthy.  

The best part of the trip was Ben and Linnea...to see them and hear them..witness the dynamic of the young married couple in the daily normal of their lives--They are both so dear.

The church we attended blessed us..I hope to have more to say about those dear people.

It is a blessing to visit the postings of my dear Maryland friends and my family scattered across the land--Not that many years ago it was not possible to glimpse into the thoughts, hearts and lives of those we love,--the musings the pictures--Ahhh--I really thank the Lord for this blessing.

(Oh--and I really have a good time browsing the blogs of creative strangers!)

Thief River Falls

We took a day trip with Ben and Linnea to Thief River Falls, Minnesota. to have lunch and check out the pioneer museum. (Which chronicled the amazing accomplishments of Peder Englestadt--a pioneer man) and had neat stuff fromm the 1800's to the 1960's + to browse through.

This was one of my favorite exhibits--the beauty parlor!

There was a print shop, phone switchboards, schoolhouse, swedish lutheren church, blacksmith shop, Pool Hall/ Candy shop, doctor's office, many pioneer cabins, a victorian style house, and many more things--whole buildings transported to a little "village" and a few large buildings with all kinds of OLD stuff to look at.

This is the GREENWAY along the Red River in Grand Forks, ND; the other side of the river is East Grand Forks, MN. I took this picture standing on the Bridge. The grassy knoll and paths go for miles up and down the river--Jason Jogs these paths many mornings. It is about 1 block from our apartment. Click on it to see it bigger--

Next to our apartment and right behind us--where buildings used to be before the 1997 FLOOD are beautiful tiny parks with sculptures made from debris of the old buildings and winding brick paths that represent the Red River. See the fishies? and the Bronze "Tree Gazebo"? If you click it bigger and look behind the gazebo you'll see a finger pointing up--that is kind of neat.

You talented photographers--I think of you--as we have several Photo studios downtown and nearly every day some one is in the parks or alleys taking pictures--weathered brick walls and thick foliage make interesting backdrops. I watch them out my window--I think they are doing senior portraits and engagement pictures --I'll try to sneak a picture if I see them again.

Recently this BAR put tables out in the back alley and a really tacky fence--and that sort of ruined the view of their spiral fire escape. But when I first saw it in its rustic neatness--I thought of the Howard sisters, Annie H. or Anna H. and how they would somehow pose and take pictures here.

Mmmmm Good!

Linnea made a cherry pie this week--A great pie is only as good as the crust. Never could understand pie eaters who leave the crust behind...

--my mother could make tender, flaky, non-soggy crust like nobody's business.

I must say--this girl--Mrs. Ben Taylor--has inherited her grandma's talent for baking. The pie was wonderful--not a crumb left on my plate!

1st Dance class

I haven't been home for weeks----Got these pictures from Stacey in an e-mail a while ago --of little Bright's first class--Today in the mail I got some wonderful ones of the boys but I have no scanner--Pfft!

home away from home

A little late--i know--but I kept trying to take a good video of the apt while the train was coming by---I'm still trying--in the meantime--

we have 3 mini parks surrounding us--I thought I had pictures--Mmmm-I guess I'll have to take some-

here is the alley --our apt is to the right--2nd floor--and a view from the front access door--beyond the pole you can see where the train track crosses the road--hence the tooting of the train I want to capture on video. Stay tuned...

Airwaves 2

I couldn't resist--these girls were so cute.-8th grade!

it all reminded me of the party for Hannah T's 16th b day--the girls all dressed up for the 40's theme. some of the guys too--somewhere on my home computer we have pictures.

Airwaves

We went to a live show called airwaves at a neat renovated downtown Theatre. We did not know till we got there that it was to benefit WWII vets--to help pay for them to go to the Memorial in D.C. It was local talent doing a show like an old radio show--with 40's music and skits. The band was VERY good--played "In the Mood" etc.

This little trio was the BEST. These girls were from a local Middle School--They also sang "Don't sit under the apple tree".



The program opened with an Honor Guard from the Air Force Base--and everyone was handed a little American flag as we came in.

Ben and Linnea went with us-a great night!!

over a month

I have been in ND over a month--hard to believe---These I took over a month ago before I left. Hudson doesn't look too sure about getting his picture taken.
I miss them so very much.

A Grand Forks Fourth

Ben and Linnea hosted a really wonderful July 4th Cookout--
I think once everyone had arrived--the count was 38 so that was a pretty good party-
Cheddar Brats
Hamburgers
chips, baked beans
delicious fruit salad
pasta salad
fruit pizzas
cookies
etc etc--all very good!
Of course I had my camera in my pocket but forgot to take pictures--But she did! SSo maybe she will post some. I did take 1. I meant to take more--but I did remember when we went to the river to see the big fireworks!

Linnea found a cd with patriotic instrumental--you know--Battle hymn of Republic. America the beautiful, Star Spangled Banner, Dixie, Camptown races, Swanee River(Is that patriotic?!--Well distinctly american anyway--)--she had it on repeat all evening in the house--She and I thought it was pretty cool--especially since she found it at Target for 25 cents on Thursday--that's right!
But Ben thought it was annoying...Hmmmmm....

Fireworks were at dusk--we got to the river around 10--and had to wait a bit for them to start--YEP--Dusk is pretty late here in the northlands.

going--gone

This has nothing to do with July 4th--But I love this picture Pat Eubanks took at the Salisbury zoo when she visited. Look at Bright's feet--I just love this--We were trying to get a picture of both of them by the little deer statue--and Krue just took off--into the little woods--and Bright is about to follow!

Since Mae asked...

I was eventually going to post this...but now is a good time I guess--Yes, in the old mall right smack dab next to the church is a rock climbing wall--all kinds of metaphors would apply here :-)



And, Suzanne, sometime this spring they had to vacate the little upstairs room near K-mart (Fire marshal's orders) and were able to get this sweet spot. Behind the curtains at the front of the "sanctuary" is a little area with tables, shelves and a fridge-- and a restroom--so it is very nice.

This is the OLD mall in Grand Forks--and it has some interesting tenants--see below:

Across from the church is THIS little business--for some reason I was tickled--I've heard diversification is a good thing!

WHY North Dakota for 2 months!!!??? --Because we can!!

These 2 cuties are the main reason we came to North Dakota June 7. Yes, We have been here 3 weeks and this is my first post--Shame on me--Now that I have broken the ice--maybe there will be more. For the first week Hannah and Patrick were here too--double fun--


This picture of Ben and Linnea was taken after 10 pm--It's like we are in the land of the midnight sun--only not quite!

Below is another reason we are here--It is a little church plant--that has a very nice spot in the Old Grand Forks Mall--They have an elder that does lay preaching--but no pastor. Jason is preaching for them on Sunday mornings while we are here and doing a Sunday School study of Pilgrim's Progress--Probably more on this later.
